Evacuation orders are lifted for houses threatened by the fire of Santa Lucia near the village of Vandenberg

UPDATE (4:44 PM) – All mandatory evacuation orders have been lifted. Residents are urged to exercise caution when returning home.

Firefighters should stay on site overnight to clean up and monitor hot spots.

The engines assigned to the protection of the structures and the planes assigned to the fire were freed.

UPDATE (3:31 p.m.) – Firefighters have said the progress of the blaze has been stopped.

The Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District said the fire was causing smoky conditions in the Lompoc area.

People are advised to stay indoors if possible.

No word yet on a possible cause of the fire.

UPDATE (3:19 p.m.) – Firefighters said the fire burned 35 acres and was 0% contained. A new evacuation warning has been issued for the area south of Highway 1 east of Constellation Road.

Evacuation orders are currently in effect for parts of the village of Vandenberg including the area west of Route 1 and south of Constellation Road, Santa Lucia Road Canyon to Klein Road, Moonglow Road south of Stardust Road, Stardust Road west of Moonglow, including Vela Way, and northeast of Moonglow Road, including Europa and Sagen Court.

UPDATE (3:12 p.m.) – An evacuation warning has been issued for the area south of Highway 1, west of Constellation Road.

The Santa Barbara County Fire Department said additional crews had been ordered to help fight the blaze from the air and on the ground.

At 3:10 p.m., firefighters were working to get an update on the scale of the blaze.

ORIGINAL STORY: Firefighters are working to contain a fire that broke out on Friday afternoon near the federal prison complex in Lompoc.

It started around 1:45 p.m. on Santa Lucia Canyon Road, near Klein Boulevard, causing Santa Lucia Canyon Road to close.

An evacuation order has been issued for the area west of Highway 1 south of Constellation Road. People in that region are being told to leave immediately.
