Annual candy cane hunt

Friday at 6 p.m. at Riverside Park in front of Pearl City Station in Muscatine.

The event is sponsored by the Muscatine Parks and Recreation Department.

Children will scramble to collect treats to keep and receive a prize for each candy cane found. “Special” candy canes will be dotted around the hunting area and can be redeemed at Pearl City Station for a special toy. The Muscatine Parks and Recreation Department has said the sugarcane hunt will take place in the dark, so bring a flashlight if you wish or will be available from sponsors.

2021 Lucia Nights in Historic Bishop Hill

Bishop Hill invites you to join our celebration of Lucia Nights 2021 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on December 10 and 11.

This Swedish tradition is based on the legend of Saint Lucia, Queen of Light. During a famine in Sweden, on the longest and darkest night of the year, Lucia appeared in a long white dress and surrounded her head with a wreath of candles. Legend has it that Lucia appeared on a ship loaded with food. When the ship was unloaded, he and Lucia disappeared. Girls in Sweden today wake up their families on December 13 carrying a tray of Lucia buns, dressed in a white dress and wearing a wreath of candles.

Lucia Nights starts at Bishop Hill with the Illumination of the Park’s Christmas tree at 6 p.m. on December 10, with music provided by the Peoria Cooperative Academy Madrigal Singers. The public is invited to bring edible ornaments to hang on the tree. Businesses and museums will have Lucia Girls to welcome guests. Around the village, each building will have a single candle in each window, and the sidewalks will also be lit with candles. The restaurants are open both evenings. Special Christmas gifts will be on sale.

At the two evenings, Bishop Hill will host a wide variety of free Christmas activities. At the fire station, the Madrigal Singers of the Peoria Cooperative Academy will perform each evening at 6:15 p.m., followed by Jazz on the Side. at 7:30 p.m.

At the Steeple Building Museum, Hammer and Pick will play a variety of Christmas and folk music from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The VASA National Archives will be hosting a closing reception for their exhibit on the names of local lodges. Also at the Archives, storyteller Brian “Fox” Ellis will share a mix of Swedish and pioneering Christmas stories and songs from 6 pm to 8 pm. pm A voluntary donation is appreciated to cover the cost of the meal. Finally, Colony Church will have Lucia and Tomte Selfie stations.

Analog Arcade Bar and Lopiez Pizza host Super Awesome Christmas Time, a holiday pop-up

Located in downtown Moline from November 27 to December 31, discover 30,000 Christmas lights, 1,000 foot garlands, special cocktails, surprise visits from Santa Claus and more. Analog Arcade Bar said the event is open Tuesday through Sunday and suitable for families until 9 p.m., DJs on Friday and Saturday evenings throughout the event.

Fejervary Holiday Light Show with Davenport Parks

Join Davenport Parks from the land of a car from November 27 to January 2, 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Fejervary Learning Center. Each show lasts about 15 min. and starts every 30 min. Tune into 107.5 on the radio for the full stereo experience.

Thursday nights are “homecoming Thursdays”, the show will return to the 2019 and 2020 shows.

Vander Veer Poinsettia and Light Display with Davenport Parks

Davenport Paks has landscaped the Vander Veer Botanical Park with white lights illuminating the walkways of the park, rose garden and Grand Alley.

In the conservatory, Davenport Paks said the annual poinsettia show, a holiday show featuring countless poinsettias and a multitude of lights as well as the Gingerbread Village holiday exhibit, will open to the public from November 27 to January 9. , Tuesday to Friday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday extended until December 18 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Conservatory is closed on Mondays. Rock Island Parks and Recreation Vacation Events
