Castries, Saint Lucia: The Association of Canadian Travel Agencies (ACTA) held its 2022 Summit in Ontario on September 14, 2022, at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. Sales Manager Ernie George represented the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority.
The ACTA Summit provided an opportunity to reconnect with the industry during a day of professional development and networking. Ernie seized the opportunity to engage travel partners and consumers in the destination.
Saint Lucia, during the general sessions, breakout rooms with top motivational speakers, panels of entrepreneurs and personalities from various sectors who were present to share new ideas, opportunities and experiences. Ernie has also hosted several organized events, including a “Lunch and Learned” in London, Ontario, and a Virtuoso Luxury engagement with 30 Virtuoso Advisors in Montreal.
While in Montreal, Ernie also attended the Air Canada product launch with destination partners, then traveled to Vancouver to attend the Vancouver International Travel Show, which was attended by over 5,000 consumers.
Arrivals to Canada are expected to increase with the return of Air Canada on October 9, as well as Sunwing, as well as subsequent increases with nonstop service from WestJet.
Earlier, tourism officials from Saint Lucia participated in the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) 2022 Annual Conference, held in the Cayman Islands from September 11-15, 2022. The annual conference brought together CTO members to discuss and plan key elements relevant to the advancement of the tourism industry and Member States.
The Saint Lucia delegation was led by the Minister of Tourism, Dr. Ernest Hilaire. He was accompanied by the CEO of the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority, Lorine Charles-St. Jules. The delegation participated in a destination briefing to regional and international media, CTO business meetings and a familiarization tour of Grand Cayman.
Sustainable air travel continues to be a key growth strategy to drive the continued recovery of Saint Lucia’s tourism product. As part of the CTO conference, the Air Transport Committee of the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority, led by Paul Collymore and Head of Research and Development – Roselieu Augustin, attended the CTO Day Symposium. Caribbean Aviation organized by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) on September 14.
