‘The Åre Murders’ adapted as a Viaplay series – VideoAge International

Best-selling crime novels by Swedish author Viveca Sten The Åre Murders will be adapted into a drama series by Viaplay. Set in the beautiful yet desolate mountainous landscapes of northern Sweden, the six-part series is produced by SF Studios in partnership with Viaplay and is directed by Joakim Eliasson (Honor; Gasmamman). Sten’s books have been published in over 40 countries and have sold over 7.5 million copies, with the screen version of her The Sandhamn Murders reaching nearly 100 million viewers worldwide since 2010.

In The Åre Murders, Stockholm police officer Hanna Ahlander takes refuge from her personal and professional problems in the picturesque village of Åre. But when a young woman goes missing on Saint Lucia’s Day, Hanna is quickly drawn into the investigation. Local police officer Daniel Lindskog reluctantly accepts his help, but can they trust each other?

Filming for the series will begin in the spring of 2023, with production from SF Studios’ Brita Lundqvist. Alongside Viveca Sten (pictured), the series’ executive producers are Susann Billberg of SF Studios and Helena Larand of Viaplay Group. Worldwide sales are handled by Viaplay Content Distribution.
