Tobago racks up accolades at the World Travel Market in London.

The island won silver in the Most Desirable Island – Rest of the World category at the 2022 Wanderlust Reader Travel Awards held in November.

Celebrating the best in travel, the Wanderlust Travel Awards spotlight the industry’s ultimate stars. Hundreds of world leaders in travel and tourism gathered at the iconic white tower of the Tower of London yesterday for the 21st edition of these prestigious awards, presented by legendary travel broadcaster Simon Reeve.

In a statement, Tobago Tourism Agency Limited said Tobago’s incredible natural beauty and unique and authentic experiences set it apart from its regional competitors in the The most desirable island category such as Cuba (4th place) and Saint Lucia (7th place), as well as well-known island destinations around the world, including Bali (9th place). Palawan, an island in the Philippines, got gold.

This particular category was a reader-voted award, where 50,000 real Wanderlust readers – some of the best traveled in the world – nominated and voted for their top destinations.

“This award is like the icing on the cake for us, coming unexpectedly at the end of WTM. I think it’s great proof that the Agency is making the right decisions regarding our marketing strategy and the niche markets that we continue to operate in. It is truly wonderful to have this victory after a difficult few years, and we will be building on this as we move forward,” said Alicia Edwards, Executive Chairman of TTAL .

Lyn Hughes, founding editor of Wanderlust, visited the Tobago stand at the WTM in London on Wednesday to personally congratulate the Tobago delegation on winning the award.

She said: “We were thrilled to see Tobago take home the silver award, out of so many nominated places. One thing that really helped our readers learn about Tobago is that we hosted a webinar, working closely with the tourism board. I know on the Wanderlust team this was one of our favorite webinars over the past year. We absolutely loved it and found the people involved to be such a pleasure to work with.

“I think this webinar, along with some of the other things done over the years to showcase Tobago, really paid off and struck a chord with our readers as a place they may not have not considered before, but ever since they discovered it, they knew it was their destination.
